by luxioflashpublished on January 2, 2026

This week’s Surveillance Report covers the internet’s free speech protections under attack as a US Senator moves to repeal Section 230. Plus: ransomware attacks escalate with React2Shell exploitation, India orders government access to encrypted messaging, AI “superintelligence” fear is being used to justify actual corporate manipulation happening right now, and Apple still refuses to comply with EU law.

  1. @likebot.

I keep listening to these articles to keep abreast of the state of the surveillance state and security threats but I still, after almost 20 years since throwing away my phone, I still do not have a phone number. Most of my privacy concerns are covered due to this, but I fear that when Canada becomes like the USA it might land me in jail to not have a phone and social media accounts linked to me. YT is it and isn't linked to me.

  2. @mr.zardoz3344

I thought it was abundantly clear the constitution is nothing more than a roll of Charmin TP. You have no more rights because laws only apply to poor people.

  3. @TonyStark-j6f

I truly admire the way you analyze these privacy topics and legislative moves. Until you mentioned the smaller social forums I thought that the bigger companies could be the main people opposed to repealing section 230, however they could gain a lot of new users or a big increase in traffic if the long tail of smaller competitors was cut. So they may be the main interested party in repealing the very section that helped them grow.

  4. @AdrianOktober74

All the politicians wanting to remove the free speech is a traitor point blank

  5. @JuanCarlos4966

So your gonna stop being a parent the moment AI and the legal system intervenes then you clearly weren’t cut out for it I understand wanting to protect the kids but essentially making them bigger targets by leaking there IDs so hackers and other dangers online can trace them leaving them worse off then before I don’t care what kind of foolishness you’re spouting off right now because you never really had a point to stand on no moral high ground you just want everything automated for you including your parental responsibility’s which is why humanity is actively sabotaging itself with all this AI nonsense throwing away all your freedom and everyone else’s freedom over a clearly flawed system that’s now being rushed into effect because you don’t wanna be a parent which is a huge crimson flag because you don’t believe in nature vs nurture it is so painfully obvious to anybody with half a brain to see that this is not justifiable now of course everything I’m saying right now feels like speculation and maybe it is but on the off chance it’s true then we need to spread the word to Instagram and Twitter and everywhere else quickly because I feel as though you guys are ignoring the core issues with the online safety act that are clearly being overshadowed with these people prematurely praising it without knowing all the problems that come with it AI may be an incredible tool but it also has the potential to be a nightmarish curse and you can all quote everything I'm typing here because the word needs to be spread!!!!!😢🎉

  6. @nightwolfkingwolf5339

hes doing this cause he doesnt wanna be held accountable cause you have people like me telling people to use their second amendment and their rights the way the founding fathers ment for them to be used he doesnt wanna be held accountable and hes scared witch he needs to be this is why we have the second amendment to make the government afraid of their people cause we control the government not the government controling us

P.s dont beleive a thing the government tells you cause they do nothing but lie lie lie and the only way to deal with the tyrannical government for once and all is civil war 2 plain and simple

  7. @djsnackcakes2795

What is it with every government coming out of the woodworks right now to ruin the internet?

  8. @sammywilliam8156

    This never happened under Biden

  9. @Iamsuchasexycatfish-i4g

google didn't used to remove "comments"
    beforehand google wasn't "over moderating"
you could say things online on reddit and etc and "usually" it wasn't illegal

in other words it's always been government fascism and now you don't like government fascism 'cause it's censoring the free speech "you" prize. Ib other words you're not "against" present day government authoritarianism, you're "cherry picking" government authoritarianism.

  10. @HyperCraxy

Thank you for the video! All these anti-online-freedom laws really concern me.

  11. @kmaxx263

Id like ve to read the article, where is it?

  12. @sillystuff6247

    FALSE
Section 230 doesn't protect citizen free speech.
    👉_Section 230_ ONLY protects Google/Facebook/Apple's right to censor you‼

  13. @AppleyardAndy

Section 230 is a double edged sword. It protects free speech but still lets platforms decide who has free speech which counters the concept of free speech. So while repealing is a step too far it does need some corrections.

  14. @VictorSavelle

Bernie is one who is trying.

  15. @airisakura1119

The elite and their puppets are truly afraid of the people.

Anyone who still believes they serve the people instead of powerful interests is fooling themselves. They strip away rights simply for speaking out, for saying basic human truths, and for standing against injustice, inequality, and horrors. Now they want to watch you constantly, control access to your life, and make things harder than they already are. And the worst part is, we don’t even know how far they’re willing to go. They’ve opened the door to something dangerous, something almost certain to go wrong.

We are heading toward a dystopian world where rights, freedoms, and happines depend entirely on where you are born, money, status, and influence. A world where success relies mostly on luck than fairness, and only a small elite benefits while everyone else is left paying and suffering.

People should be standing up, speaking out, and refusing to accept this. They should be demanding change and choosing something better instead of staying silent. But too many remain quiet, afraid, or unwilling to challenge anything. If that continues, we will end up in a cold, merciless, unjust world where dignity, fairness, and ture happines disappear.

  16. @clogin4

we cant all fall to 1984 we have to resist this

  17. @mozz02

This is what happens when you let the right win power, freedom is against the idea of the right it just is

  18. @davidbrown6878

I've removed Dark-Reader for Firefox after it was accused of creating a backdoor during one in ten online events.

  19. @WhiteGroyper

So, based on the latest keynotes of the "World Jewish Congress" they've been publicly demanding for the criticism of israel to be outlawed. and here's the plan:

    1. The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) creates the legal definition of what "antisemitism" is and they've included anti-zionism as antisemitism. Also, if you point out that they have a literal World Jewish Congress that has influence on western governments then that's also "antisemitism".

    2. Removing section 230 will now hold youtube/x/facebook/reddit/etc accountable for "antisemitism" as defined by the IHRA.

    3. Entities like the ADL and other jewish advocacy groups will file lawsuits against youtube/x/facebook/reddit/etc if they don't ban all kinds of "antisemitism" as defined by IHRA.

    4. Now criticism of israel is banned online and then we won't be able express our grievances such as the need to have the American-Israeli Political Affairs Committee (AIPAC) register under the FARA act

  20. @Translucent100

'Harmful speech' = 'thought crime'….good little fooled citizens

  21. @lieffian

Then we make sure that politician is forced to pull the bill

  22. @robgreene3956

The electric cost being passed onto customers is the improvement of the electric infrastructure which are needed to support the increased demands from the AI centers. That's how they hide the true AI cost to the public. That, and convincing people it's the electric cars causing the cost increase.

  23. @robgreene3956

    We've been AI'ed!

  24. @peaceboyjohn4204

    We need to keep fighting

  25. @jaketheoctoling

Seems like they are scared of Gen Z. Now we can finish this. It’s literally Now or Never.

  26. @AllGodInfinity

    Protect your 1st Amendment Right!
Sue these Senators & others who try to get rid of your Freedom of Speech!

Freedom of Speech is a right they aren't allowed to take away from the people!

  27. @Dan-z2c3n

    Bro…..
Your premise doesn't Start out with a Very Important Element .
TRUMP and the Far-Right want to go after Free Speech . We saw it when he went after jimmy Kimmel .
And it wasn't just a" Senator " who brought up the That Bill. What Party was affiliation was he?
And 40min is Way too long to listen to find out if u even mention Palantir . Im out ….at the 2:40 mark

  28. @ghosttankcommander5397

    WHERES THE FUCKING HYPE BUTTON?!?!??!?

  29. @JimmyICU

I think AI will eventually go out with a whimper. It's going to end up being more of a hassle for most people and not worth the effort. It's going to end up being a fad.

  30. @argenti3609

    2nd protects the 1st

  31. @walterroche8192

Section 230 problems are directly about publishing and protecting multimillion to multiTrillion dollar companies. It does not guarantee you free speech.

Btw the US 1st Amendment guarantees Internet free speech because the Federal Gov OWNS the methods & infrastructure.

  32. @xeth9074

Free speech should always be allowed. The only speech I appose is inciting physical violence against others.(this includes blackmail due to possible physical effects)
Anything else goes in my book….

  33. @canabitter

There is a lot of criticism that can be directed at AI, and, like any other technology, it will inevitably be used for evil purposes. However, adjusting prices is not one of those concerns—in fact, I think it’s a good thing.

The study about InstantCart was conducted by an extreme left wing organization, which suggests there may be bias in its findings. Even assuming the results are accurate and InstantCart does adjust prices as they say, that doesn’t bother me much. From my point of view, they are simply exploring a different revenue model, I hope nobody expects them to deliver groceries out of the goodness of their hearts. In the end, nobody forces you to use InstantCart, you can always shop for groceries yourself. Uber has had dynamic pricing for ages already.

More generally, prices are an important carrier of information, and economists understand this very well. Prices change over time and across locations, it isn’t surprising that you’ll pay more for goods in Manhattan and less in Nebraska. Many factors influence product pricing, and if AI helps set prices more effectively, it can lead to more efficient production and delivery of goods and services.

Why does everyone immediately assume that prices will always go up? Perhaps some unemployed people on food stamps will see lower prices, which could be offset by higher prices in more affluent areas (a side note: the richest counties in the U.S. are clustered around Washington, D.C.). A lot of companies have similar business model.

Another note about electricity prices in areas around data centers: it does suck, and I feel for the residents, but it isn’t only because of AI. I guess the price increase would occur if any large institution opened a factory or a non‑AI data center nearby. The best way to prevent that is to deregulate the electricity market, introduce competition, and lower taxes.

  34. @danwl9708

sounds like governments really do want to spy on everything you do on your device. they'll take the easy targets first, but to scan for one type of content, you need to scan everything

  35. @_HarryPotter_

I really liked the FOSS section in SR. Please bring it back. The previous format was very nice where we knew what kind of stories were being presented at what time.

  36. @SilliestGoober999

    Restore Net Neutrality!

  37. @Chris-im5pq

Irony isn't it? they redacted the whole Epistein files yet will attack free speech whole heartedly. imagine protecting the pedophiles yet punishing freedoms. may lord Jesus come soon to resolve this world from evil that the antichris's grasp its under.

  38. @Lil_Puppy

Platforms are already censoring speech. Financial providers are censoring content, and governments all over the west are being pushed to implement content controls to manipulate populations (ID requirements, Chat Controls, "for the kids!", etc.). Getting really tired of this nonsense. You violate my freedom of speech and I'm at war with you.

  39. @Atemnûra_KrünZorûk4.5

    SENATOR?!
    AMERICAN?!
    AN ATTACK AGAINST FREEDOM!?!!?

    DAMN IT, NOT AGAIN!!!

    ARMSTROOOONG!!!!

  40. @JuanCarlos4966

Free speech is vital for life to happen and we must protect it at all costs because without trust and fairness we ultimately have nothing again we must spread this news all over Twitter and Instagram and everywhere else as soon as possible because all of this has clearly gone to far and a healthy functioning society needs it’s free speech so everyone can thrive and live happily on equal terms we shouldn’t take that for granted just because it’s legal doesn’t make it moral and the sooner everyone realizes that the better off we will all be😢🎉

  41. @Born…

Any creature who intends to infringe on our rights MUST be held accountable and there must be repercussions. Who is going to do that you ask? WE THE PEOPLE… Nothing is going to get done unless WE do something about it. Stand up and get your heads out of the sand. It's time to wake up.

  42. @42188productions

Well the internet could be turned off and bam, we are finally out of the prison….

  43. @BrilliantBatgirl

Did you hear that Louis Rossmann started a privacy centric cell phone company? You don’t need to provide any user information to sign up and you can pay for it in crypto if you want. They also put a ton of work into hiding credit card information if you still prefer to pay that way.

  44. @ghostdragon6695

putting your id on the internet is risky but government dont care

  45. @darkfox2401

    Corporate shill.

  46. @darkfox2401

Section 230 only protects corporations allowing them to profit off of things like Child exploration and Abuse just cause THEY didn't upload it. Don't be a corporate shill.
You can already be prosecuted for what you say online. We need to appeal section 230 to stop incentivizing abuse.

  47. @BourgProductionsII

Time to unplug the computer and throw it out the window.

  48. @YuryNikolajavich

Freedom of Expression is a HUMAN RIGHT. This is non-negotiable.
