Well how do you think they got so powerful to begin with, by doing good to others? By being morally correct people?
That's not the way you accrue power (the real one), you do it at the expense of others, and once you do it long enough, that becomes how you perceive the world "us vs the expendables" where the expendables is 99.99% of the human race.
That's how nobles and royals viewed people during the whole medieval times and up until their loss of power, that's how Roman emperors and powerful families view the plebes.
Now for those who interact in their daily lives with actual rich folks, even if they are nothing compared to this very upper echelon of riches, how do they behave?
How does the CEO of your corp reacts to the news payrolls for a branch of their company is 1 month late and its employees are complaining?
I had the "pleasure" of being in a meeting where such a thing was discussed, and that specific CEO wasn't even a nasty person he just answered with a puzzled look on his face:
"I don't see the big issue here? We need to pay them and we will, next month they'll get both payrolls!"
Complete lack of understanding how for a lot of folks not getting paid every single month means trouble, because… well it doesn't for him, he could go on years without getting a single cent and still be doing great.
